Crisis Management Guidelines

Fraternity & Sorority Life has created guidelines for managing a crisis that involves fraternities and sororities or their members. These guidelines are compiled from the policies and expectations of the inter/national fraternities and sororities and are designed to serve as a framework for chapters.

Community of Concern

The Community of Concern team works with faculty, staff, students, and the community to provide resources for members of the University of Kentucky community to help them maintain successful relationships with the University. The Community of Concern staff is an excellent resource for fraternity and sorority members to help them address troubling behaviors in their peers, how to be a support system to these students, and become more familiar with on campus resources. Hazing Prevention

The University of Kentucky has a no-tolerance policy for hazing. The University is involved in several projects and activities aimed at hazing prevention, education, and culture change in all organizations at the University - not just fraternities and sororities. Violence Intervention and Prevention Center

The University of Kentucky is home to the Violence Intervention and Prevention Center (VIP). VIP provides students, staff, and faculty the tools, support, and opportunities to shape a violence-free campus through the design and delivery of innovative and inclusive programming and services. The VIP Center is located in the lower level of Frazee Hall, next to the Student Center, and is open Monday-Friday from 8:30am to 5pm.

Dean of Students & Student Conduct

The University of Kentucky Dean of Students Office provides both administrative and educational services that support the personal and academic success of students. The office provides extracurricular‚ non–academic educational programs and also collaborates with academic units to provide support for students in reaching their educational goals.

The Dean of Students Office is comprised of the central office located in 513 Patterson Office Tower as well as a number of affiliated departments. The central office provides a wide range of services including those related to emergencies‚ notaries‚ and student conduct. Departments affiliated with the Dean of Students Office include Substance Education & ResponsibilityStudent InvolvementDisability Resource CenterFraternity & Sorority LifeNew Student & Parent Programs, and Off-Campus Student Services.

Student Conduct

The Office of Student Conduct works with students, faculty, staff, and the community to provide education and accountability for the Code of Student Conduct


Fire Marshal

The University of Kentucky Fire Marshal's office works with fraternities and sororities to help maintain safety in chapter houses. The regular inspections and drills are coordinated by Robert Smith in the Fraternity & Sorority Life office. Visit the Fire Marshal's website here.

Off-campus fraternity and sorority houses should coordinate with the Lexington Fire Marshal's office for their safety inspections each semester. You can contact them here.

The Lexington Fire Marshal has also provided helpful tips and tools to evaluate your risk of fire and prevent fires in your house, apartment, or room. You can find these items at the links below, or chapter presidents can access the documents in the Chapter President Portal on OrgSync.
